Bringing Style To Your Bedroom

Whits bedroom1, detail 1

Do you just view your bedroom as a functional room where you go to bed, sleep and wake up and feel that there really is no need to make it special? Is it a room that nobody else sees, so why bother? However, it’s a room that you probably spend more than a third of your life in and here at Style My Home, we think it’s important to make it a really personal room that is an expression of you, which reflects your favourite colours and the things you love to have around you. We hope our article changes your mind and gives you some ideas and inspiration.

Wouldn’t it be amazing if your bedroom had the “wow” factor? Style My Home looks at how your bedroom can be completely transformed to look stylish and polished. It could be a complete makeover or it could just involve adding a few accessories to make it more attractive and appealing. The bedroom should be a calming room that you enjoy going to, a place where you can relax, sleep and love to wake up in, surrounded by all your favourite things.

Declutter And Plan

First of all, you need to create harmony and decluttering is a great way to start. You will then have a blank canvas where you can start planning your dream bedroom. Think about the things that you need in your bedroom and make sure you have good storage options, so that you can stay free of clutter. Think carefully about the colours, tones, patterns and textures that you want to use, as these will pay an important part in creating a room, which is peaceful, calm and soothing or dramatic and romantic.

  • Flooring options
  • Furniture
  • Storage options
  • Wall treatment

Colour, Flooring And Furniture

If you choose more subtle tones, adding accessories can introduce colour, tone and texture to the room. Many people forget about the ceiling, but this is really important as painting ceilings in darker tones or having a textured finish can look amazing and be really atmospheric. Just remember as you lay in bed, it’s the ceiling that you are often staring at. Wallpaper isn’t everyone’s thing, but a statement wallpaper wall could really work or a bold coloured painted wall. Are you happy with the flooring in your bedroom or would you like it replaced with wooden flooring, tiles or a new carpet? You may be using furniture that you have already but if not, think carefully about the size of the furniture, as heavy large furniture will be overpowering in a small room.

Storage

Storage should never be overlooked and think carefully if you want a freestanding wardrobe or a custom-designed system, as the latter will usually give you more flexibility and extra storage for your things, particularly your clothes. Add a high chest of drawers for maximum storage and introduce a chest at the bottom of the bed or an attractive ottoman for linen storage. A bed with drawers or lift up storage or storage units designed to go under the bed are the answers for storage in a small room.

Accessories

  • Pillows and cushions
  • Throw blankets
  • Rugs
  • Lighting including lamps and shades
  • Bedding
  • Artwork
  • Headboard
  • Personal items

Throws, Rugs And Cushions

A throw blanket or rug can add a splash of colour and add instant contrast if your bedroom has neutral tones. Carefully arrange throws on the bed or on a chair, so they are ready for you to snuggle into if you are watching the television or reading a book. The bed of course takes up a lot of space, so make it an attractive and interesting feature by placing a few pillows or cushions on it to give it that cosy feel. You may also want to change the bed linen and introduce more texture and pattern and a bed can really come to life by adding a headboard, and you will find that a tall headboard can be used to dramatic effect and be a real focal point. Also, why not indulge in luxurious fabrics?

Lighting, Curtains And Personal Things

Lighting can make a real impact, so consider bedside lamps or a floor lamp. If you have a ceiling light, why not add a chandelier to add sophistication and romance, but make sure you always have a dimmer switch. Rugs will add texture and will complement tiled and wooden floors and can also be placed on top of a carpet.

If your room has small windows, blinds may be a good option but in a larger room you can be quite opulent with your fabrics. Consider if you need blackout blinds. To make the room really personal to you, add special things such as photographs, a piece of art or things you have collected on your travels.

Trend Spotting: Peach & Terracotta

Say “hello” to Peach this 2018 – this ranges from salmon, coral and terracotta to a dusky rose. This burnt orange-inspired tone takes over from last year’s must-have Millennial Pink. It’s soft and powdery shades offer a fresh palette and a mellow new neutral, perfect if you are not able to face yet another grey. Embrace nature and go for apricot, dusky rose and terracotta shades with accents of natural wood. Warmer textures such as brass, natural wood and velvets enhance these peach tones, creating a modern and grown-up alternative to pinks, with a base colour that is really easy to team with anything!

Need some more inspiration? Here’s how we would style the must-have colour of 2018 – Peach!

Achieve the ceiling price for property on your street

Potential buyers will see your property’s best features shine!

Style My Home Crosley 1

When selling a property, there will always be a risk of running into difficulties and delays. Estate agents might suggest reducing the asking price so you can enjoy a quick sale, which is not always guaranteed. Instead, invest in your home; show off your property to its full potential with home staging. First impressions are so important (on average, most property buyers have made their decision within 3 seconds of seeing your property) – it’s imperative that photographs of the interior are showcasing your home to it’s highest standard, to attract attention and make prospective buyer come to visit instead of dismissing due to a lack of interest or not realising the property’s full potential.

Style My Home Trosley 2

Property buyers have high expectations; they’re searching for their dream home. If they fall in love with your property, they will make an offer. That’s why it is so important to showcase your home to it’s full potential – our Staging for Selling service provides you and your home the competitive edge against neighbouring properties also on the market, showing off it’s best features. Our Staging for Selling service enhances your property; we focus on what your home can offer and visually sell the lifestyle that the property promotes, whether it’s a cosy family home or a modern open-plan barn conversion.

Style My Home Chevening Road

Staging for Selling is an investment, not a cost – our service has proven that it is more cost effective to invest in giving your home a refresh and facelift rather than give in to a drop reduction in asking price.

Home Staging for Selling

Spring will always be known as being the best time to sell your home; the days are sunnier, houses look brighter and gardens are coming into bloom. Not only is it the perfect time to showcase your home, but with a lack of major holidays to contend with, you could also attract a greater number of potential buyers!

At Style My Home, we offer a personal and bespoke Home Staging service, tailored to your needs and style, whether you’re staging for selling or renting, updating for a fresh new look or just looking for some final touches, to ensure that your home is presented at it’s very best. Our Home Staging for Selling service has been a huge success, not only by selling properties faster but also in many cases selling for a greater price, therefore not only covering your costs from staging, but surpassing them! Get in touch if you would like to find out more, and take a look at our top tips below:

1. First impressions are SO important – When it comes to selling your home, firstimpressions are always paramount; most buyers form an opinion of a house within seconds of walking through the door. Make sure that the first things they see are a de-weeded front garden with fresh flowers, trimmed bushes, a swept path and a freshly painted front door with a sparkling clean window

2. Make sure to de-clutter – Clutter makes rooms look disorganised and appear smaller than they really are, which is never good when you’re trying to showcase the best of your property to a potential buyer. Make sure you remove unnecessary coats or shoes from a hallway, as it is the first indoor space your potential buyer will be seeing. Take time to remove as much clutter as possible, or invest in clever and simple storage solutions

3. Clean, clean, clean – Like tidiness, cleanliness should never be underestimated. In high impact spaces, such as the kitchen and bathroom, ensure that all surfaces are cleaned and shiny, and don’t forget the floors, which instantly life the room when sparkling. Add fresh flowers for a natural, appealing scent, and try to maximise on natural light. Faux flowers can also be effective

4. Stay neutral – If you do decide to add a fresh new look to your property, stay neutral with your colour choices; try to avoid bright colours and bold patterns. It allows buyers to envisage the property as their own, with their own furniture and stamp on it, without being bombarded with your own style first

5. Finally fix it – Something broken that’s been playing on your mind for a while, like a broken tile, missing grout or dripping tap? Finally get it fixed before putting your house on the market – it will only send a wrong message to viewers and potential buyers

We understand that updating your home can seem like an unnecessary evil with our modern and very busy lives, but we can offer a detailed consultation and written report, with priorities and clear, practical advice, Alternatively we can arrange clutter busters, painters, carpet fitters, and rent furniture and accessories. We can manage the project from start to finish; ready for your Estate Agents’ photographs
