A Memorable And Magical Christmas Table

SMH - Christmas (2)

At Christmas time, there is always a real focus on food and drink and the dinner table is at the heart of everything, as it’s where everyone meets to talk and reminisce. Here at Style My Home, based in Tunbridge Wells, we think the times spent at the dinner table should live long in the memories of your guests, your friends and family. One great way of doing this is to create a stylish table, one that will become a real talking point and one that your guests will remember as they think back to a Christmas time spent with their loved ones.

There are so many things that you can do to show off your styling skills so that you create something magical to really impress your guests. Style My Home brings you our ideas ranging from colour schemes, place settings, centrepieces and table decorations and we hope that our festive ideas will inspire you to add these special touches to your Christmas feasts.

Picking A Theme And A Colour

Your table style is down to planning, and a good place to start is to select a colour scheme and a theme. You could go for the traditional colours of Christmas, red and green or opt for sparkling gold or shimmering silver to add glamour and glitz. Or you might choose to create a wintery scene with Santa, reindeer, snow, glistening trees and candles.

Tablecloths and Runners

The starting point will have to be the table covering. Many people don’t normally put a tablecloth or runner on their table but Christmas should be an exception. Again what you pick is down to your creativity and ‘simple’ can be the perfect base, so why not choose a white tablecloth, which will add a touch of sophistication and will be the perfect background to your designs including cutlery, place settings and glasses. Tartan patterns are always popular at Christmas, or perhaps you could choose a cloth decorated with Christmas trees, Santa and his reindeer and festive decorations and presents. You may however be very proud of your dining table and might not want to cover it up, so adding a runner adorned with greenery and floral designs will be enough.

Layering Is The Key To A Stylish And Professional Finish

The next step is to consider placemats, charger plates and your crockery and cutlery. White china also looks good and can really come to life with those festive touches and of course you can bring out the crockery with festive designs, as it’s bound to be a real talking point. Here the key is layering.

Consider All Of the Elements

  • Candles
  • Garlands
  • Berries, mandarins and cloves
  • Bows and ribbons
  • Festive scene

Why not bring the fragrance of pine forests to your table? Decorating your table with fresh greenery and placing a few candles with your favourite Christmas aromas amidst the foliage can achieve this. Introduce spruce, pine, red berries, blue thistles and orange segments. And don’t forget, you can use hanging greenery decorated with bows and ribbons for effect.

Napkins should not be forgotten and a simple idea is to tie with festive ribbons so that they resemble gift boxes or you could use Christmas themed napkin rings such as rustic pinecones or you could make your own from Christmas paper cut into tree shapes. And avoid that dilemma of where everyone is going to sit by introducing placecards.

Centrepieces are the real focal point and glass bowls, vases, ceramic dishes, wooden boxes and plates can be used to eyecatching effect. Fill with clementines, sprigs of pine, holly, rosy apples and candles or introduce a tub filled with small Christmas trees. A simple and very effective idea is to choose your favourite flowers for this time of the year and place the vase on a tray with candles and fir cones.

And don’t forget the crackers!
