Contemporary Family Home with Traditional Touches

Re-styled Family Home

The client wanted a spacious and tranquil home for their young, growing family. Fun lighting and accessories bring life to the playroom, while muted colours and a new wood burner have opened up the informal sitting room.

The family bathroom and en-suite were completely re-styled and a sauna was removed to create a second bathroom with walk-in shower.

The Master bedroom was decorated with grey and soft lilac accents for an intimate, relaxing feel.

Redecoration, new painted units, the removal of a large canopy and new wooden floors flowing through to the hallway, increase the sense of space in the kitchen. We also added built-in storage to the hallway to create a light, uncluttered entrance.

Assembly Hall Bar

The brief was specific and practical, lots of people use this space from WI meetings to large audiences in the Auditorium demanding speedy alcoholic refreshments during the interval.

As budget was limited, the main bar was refurbished. The coving and architraves were picked out in contrasting paint colours, the original Bakelite bar made more prominent with the addition of new black radiators and black bar stools. The windows were dressed with deco shaped pelmets. Glass ceiling chandeliers above the bar grouped to give a striking focal point, creating a glamorous atmosphere. A feature wall uses large porcelain tiles lit with LED lights to create a soft lighting feature and a more intimate seating area, with contemporary upholstered seating fitted to the outside walls.

Whitstable Showflat

This was a refurbishment of a tall building in Whitstable carried out by a local developer. The top floors boasted panoramic views across Whitstable Bay. Style My Home was involved in the design of the bathrooms & kitchens and the furnishing and styling of the show-flat to prepare prior to sale.
With views like this the theme was most definitely ‘beach apartment’. This is reflected in the choice of pictures and accessories giving a very calm, relaxed holiday atmosphere.

Workers Cottage Extension

This was a ground floor extension on a small workers cottage to create a light spacious room for eating, entertaining and living.  This adjoined the existing re-furbished kitchen.  With the use of bi-fold doors this newly created contemporary room opened out to a large decking area leading to existing country garden. We also re-planned the existing floor space to provide a modern ground floor shower room, giving the house a second bathroom.

Tapas Bar

This project was a perfect example of how to achieve a stylish, contemporary look with a tight budget and an even tighter deadline. The client wanted a modern, cosmopolitan café-bar feel, but the opening night was looming and couldn’t be delayed.

The end result is a contemporary look that satisfied both the client’s need for a warm and cosy environment, as well as seating as many customers as possible in a comfortable and intimate setting. The dark woods, exposed brickwork and warm browns are punctuated by a deep red accent colour. Although the deadline was extremely tight, the project was finished on time to the client’s total satisfaction.

Georgian Villa

This extensive refurbishment project involved working with team a of architects,
contractors and furniture designers, to achieve the very highest standards
of craftsmanship. We liaised closely with the clients, who had a very definite
vision of what they wanted to achieve.

The many bedrooms were transformed into larger rooms with spacious
en-suite bathrooms. Extra windows and skylights were added, whilst some trees and shrubs were removed to give the whole house a very light, airy feel.

Interiors were styled to complement the client’s contemporary art collection. Fittings were sourced from Italy, USA and India, and many bespoke items such as rugs and bathroom furniture were commissioned. The project not only involved styling, but managing the arrival and installation of all interior
fittings and furniture.

Modern Town House

This refurbishment was project managed for a family moving to the South of England from abroad. The client wanted to update the interior using contemporary Italian kitchen and bathroom appliances. The Philippe Starck cloakroom basin unit is typical of the ultra-modern feel that the client specified.

The project had a strict timetable of six months and the whole refurbishment was project managed by Style My Home. Integral to the project was a complex lighting scheme that involved fitting recessed lights in the hallways, landings and stairways. Style My Home was responsible for all bathroom and kitchen installations, decoration, floor coverings, window treatments and furniture.

Dental Practice

The partners of this busy private dental practice felt it was time for a complete update of their premises. Style My Home were asked to transform all public and staff areas including the entrance, waiting rooms and reception. The planning
of the entrance/reception was particularly important, as it is the busiest part
of the practice.

The client wanted a classic look and to keep some existing features such as the Victorian fireplace in the original part of the building. The reception area needed to be more spacious, with a visual flow through to the consultation rooms. We also re-designed seating areas to improve access throughout the building. Some existing furnishings were re-upholstered and new details added including cushion covers, and lighting was updated to create a seamlessly lit environment. Textures, accessories and decorative wall coverings have added interest. The result is a calmer, airier, more inviting environment for both staff and patients alike.

Hair Salon

This re-styling of a small hair salon was particularly challenging because of the size and shape of the room. The client needed to maximise the space but prevent the feeling of a long, thin corridor, with the stylists working in one long row.

A two-way mirror breaks up the room and creates two new workstations. The original floor was stained and complemented with rich brown/bronzed porcelain tiles in the washing areas. Cream leather salon chairs by REM UK make a bold statement, whilst rattan chairs and black and taupe silk details add a touch of simple elegance.

Beachside Apartment I

This newly purchased beach apartment is used as a family weekend retreat.  Having been previously owned by an elderly lady, the client required a completely updated look to create a fresh, stylish but functional weekend home.

The blues and browns of the immediate landscape were the inspiration for the colour scheme. A fun, seaside look was created using local photography and quirky accessories such as glass starfish and beach hut photographs for the children’s room. The property was completely furnished and styled ready for the family to use when they moved in.

Maison-style Bedroom

The client wanted to create a tranquil bedroom that combined luxury and elegance with a natural feel. A new upholstered bed had already been purchased. The first step was to re-cover the bed in a Designers Guild textured fabric to create a stunning focal point.

The decorative cushions, bedspread, French bedside tables, velvet buttoned chair, silver candlesticks and storm lantern were all selected from Maison Home Interiors. Wall colours, embroidered curtains, sisal flooring and a specially commissioned headboard completed the calming effect of this master bedroom.

Edwardian Town House

This project entailed a complete makeover for the master bedroom and en-suite bathroom in an elegant, early twentieth-century town house. The client wanted to keep the existing furniture but create a calm, relaxing bedroom with a seating area in the bay window.

The colour palette used soft and natural shades to complement the natural stone en-suite bathroom. The soft furnishings incorporated embroidered silks and beautiful textured cushions. To provide privacy at the window in the en-suite, a stylish voile panel with string detail was chosen.

Beachside Apartment II

This apartment was purchased to extend the client’s original beachside apartment; creating space for their teenage children and their friends. A new entrance was constructed to integrate the two properties and pull-out beds were used to enable flexible holiday sleeping arrangements.

The project included a complete re-design of the original kitchen to create a kitchen / diner. The sitting room was converted into a master bedroom with sea views for the two girls. We also re-styled a second bedroom and en-suite bathroom, and re-decorated and furnished the entire apartment.

A fresh colour scheme of turquoise, silver and white, combined with simple, modern furniture, maximizes the feeling of space. The seaside theme of the upstairs apartment is carried through to ensure that the two spaces complement each other. The project was completed on schedule, ready for Easter 2010.
